Teaming up for cancer survivors at West Fight On race

At The Marston Group, being involved in our community is an integral part of who we are. This past weekend, our team had the honor of participating in the annual West Fight On race at Shelby Farms Park, an event that brings together walkers, runners, and bikers in support of cancer survivors, fighters, and caregivers. Held on Saturday, September 7, the event raised funds for cancer research and celebrated the powerful bond between survivors and their caregivers.

Our booth offered an opportunity for race participants to craft and wear ribbons in honor of their personal cancer journeys or to recognize the loved ones they fight for. It was truly a meaningful experience as we came together to share stories of strength and resilience. Seeing people proudly wearing their custom ribbons was a powerful reminder of the personal and collective battles fought daily against cancer.

We want to give a special shout out to our incredible team for their participation, both on the course and in the booth. Our runners represented us well, with Francisco Trujillo-Barrientos and friends, Molly McDonald, Bryan Hayes, Ally Barefield, and Henry Chipley crossing the finish line in support of such an important cause. A big congratulations to Henry for placing third in the race!

  • Allyson Barefield and her fiancé, Jake Purkey, ran in memory of Bailey Grace Purkey.
  • Bryan Hayes ran in honor of Linda Hayes and in memory of Trudy Curry.
  • Henry Chipley ran in memory of Jan and Jack Mazurek.
  • Molly McDonald and Ethan Ferguson ran in honor of Paul Douglas.

Alongside our runners, our staff members volunteered to work behind the scenes, ensuring that our booth was a welcoming environment for all attendees. Tent hosts Heather Starnes, Tiffany Kern, Angela Hayes, Annie, and Tom Chipley made sure everything ran smoothly.

Many of our staff dedicated their time in memory or honor of loved ones:

  • Angela Hayes and Annie volunteered in honor of Linda Hayes and in memory of Trudy Curry.
  • Heather Starnes volunteered in memory of Betty Starnes.
  • Tiffany Kern volunteered in honor of Angeline Fraizer Kern.
  • Hilary volunteered in memory of Jan and Jack Mazurek.

West Fight On is a celebration of hope, survival, and the community that surrounds and supports cancer fighters. The Marston Group is honored to have been a part of this meaningful event, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s race.

To everyone who came out to represent us and champion this worthy cause, we extend our heartfelt thanks. You made a difference – not just for the event, but for the survivors, caregivers, and families who rely on the strength of the community around them.

We hope you can join us next year!
